Governing in whose best interests?

In 2000 I arrived at JFK airport with a copy of the Independent newspaper whose headline declared “Gore victory” or words to that effect. I left the US eight days later and the outcome of the presidential election was still unknown. Bush got it in the end with disastrous effect.

Pull up the duvet?

I’m an irrepressible optimist, a half full person always eager to find the ‘bright side’. So it’s not often that I want to pull the duvet over my head and hide from the world but this morning I came close to it.

The devil and the deep blue sea?

Most trade union friends and acquaintances of mine are now in ‘vote Labour’ campaign mode, most but not all. For me the choice is straightforward, Labour or Conservative.

What do we know about what is at the heart of Conservative politics? One issue that I believe defines conservatism is the Party’s attitude toward equality. Women voters are said to be critical in the forthcoming general election and there will be a lot of froth and spin in an attempt to win women over.
