Any claim by the coalition government that their austerity measures are fair and proportionate is blown out of the water by this dreadful forecast.

I fear for local authority provision of childcare in the UK if the cuts being planned by some local authorities go ahead. We know that Conservative public sector cuts would decimate all but essential services leaving early years care up for grabs. The impact would be felt by the overwhelmingly women workforce.
